So, the account manager we hired didn't work out, and so the MacBook we got for him is up for grabs at the office. Heather has first dibs, but so far she isn't terribly happy about dealing with Windows under Parallels Desktop, so I may be inheriting the Intel Mac after all.
In preparation for this, I've done all I can to make sure Windows works properly (especially with Quickbooks) and so forth, but I'm also looking into ways to make the switching experience less awkward (both in terms of switching to MacOS and in terms of switching between concurrent OSX and WinXP sessions). One thing I'm trying out (albeit on the old non-Intel iBook) is running OSX and WinXP side-by-side under VirtueDesktops. I'm already running CodeTek Virtual Desktop Pro, and like it okay, but figured it'd be worth trying a more freely available package and work out the kinks.
So far, there aren't many - the basics are there in both, with a slight issue in VirtueDesktops that it doesn't seem to understand exactly how to bind an app's windows to a particular desktop and how to switch to that desktop when the app gets focus, but I'm going to try rebooting into Virtue (right now I'm working from what was an active VDP session, transferring into Virtue, so I'm hoping that's the problem). But the transitions are fine, the idea of a bezel pager is interesting, and so what the heck. I am curious how Virtue gets its desktop's names and how to change them (I'd prefer 'web' to the default 'browsing', for example), but I'll keep digging.
In other "news", laugh, it's funny.
